Attack of the phantom graffiti artist!!!!!

Went out and about town last week with every intention of taking photograph's but my creativeness was AWFUL so I'm not to pleased with the photo's I have..........................and my camera battery keeps dying so I'm having to charge that constantly and that's giving me less time to go out and take photo's! DAMMIT.

Worked loads this weekend and pretty much feel so tired all the time so hardly got a single bit of this project done over the weekend, so stressful.

However, I got woken up on Saturday morning with my mum at my bedroom door asking me why "my name was on the pavement". So I'm thinking, what the heck is this crazy woman on about? My name's in the paper? But no no, it WAS on the PAVEMENT! So I sprang out of bed and looked out her bedroom window and clear as day there was my name, spray painted onto the pavement outside my house. Oh how we laughed!!!!

It's actually amazing, I have no idea who did it even though I've been asking all my friends. So I took a photo so everyone could see this masterpiece!

Hahahaha how amazing! There are several theories behind it:

Someone really loves me and wants to tell me
Someone really hates me and wants to tell me
Someone knows me too well and knows that I would find it funny so they've done it for the banter
Or...it was Iain. Lol.

So after much researching I've worked out it was done in the space of an hour, between around 12.45am and 2am as that's when people were coming home and leaving the house. I'm pretty sure it's white spray paint so the council are gonna love it! But I just want to know who did it so if you hear anyone speaking of it, let me know!!! It's MASSIVE LOL!

Anyways today my camera's battery is playing up on me so it looks like I'm stuck in the house taking photo's while it charges and I'm going to research more David Shrigley and see if I can get some more inspiration because I'm a bit stuck :( Also, any suggestions for the photo's would be lovely!

oops

Nearly forgot to mention that my L.E.D badge came through. It's the size of a credit card and SO COOL haha. It's also a magnetic badge. I can't work out how to do spaces in it yet but you can practically type and essay into it and it scrolls along the screen in red lights...............jealous yet? :) You can even change the speed it scrolls at. I know, I know, it's ace.

It's hard to take photo's of moving things. This is meant to say Carly.

It's teeny :)

WONKY IS GOOD

After a good chat with Paul I'm planning on going round Clarkston (where I live) and Glasgow and "creating a voice for myself" through grafitti (legal of course) and little white stickers. 100 photographs, here I come. Spent hours tonight printing off words and phrases I want to use and cutting them out to make stencils so I'm interested to see how that will work tomorrow (it's a bit dark and cold tonight). Woop woop.

I'm going to have to think more about my choice of words and the setting together because I keep just thinking about any word and any place but it's not adding up together. I also maybe need to think about colours of spray paint/pen I use if I want to make more of an effect with it. I love it when I notice a billboard for example, that says something really funny on it. There is a billboard down the road from my house, next to the train station and it advertises bread and the slogan is "WONKY IS GOOD....never trust a symmetrical loaf". (I'll photopgraph it and pap it on here asap.) To be honest I noticed this straight away and found it so funny. I find it interesting how you can communicate to people through billboards and that's the thing I'd like to achieve.

I'm actually so excited about these photo's but I'm worried they aren't going to look as good as I'm expecting them too but we shall wait and see.

I heart my art

So since my last blog, I've basically been buying materials like spray paints and stencils. I was listening to a song by a band called Robot's In Disguise and the lyrics that caught my, well, ear, were "I heart my art". I thought this was quite funny so I mucked aroudn with stencils and those words and created a small banner type thing and hung it to dry on my washing line. I want to work on a larger scale though. Also been looking at text on advertisements. Got so many ideas but I'm taking ages to get them on paper so need to work on that today! Any other suggestions are very welcome :)

I'll do graffiti if you sing to me in french

Went looking for skips yesterday with Iain and we weren't successful :(

Wandered down to the Clyde and because I'm thinking about using text as my main thing with this project I took photo's of the graffiti, not sure what I'm going to do with them yet but I'll get them up here soon.

Decided yesterday that I would like to make quite a big piece of work, like a massive banner, and put it somewhere in Glasgow (OR just on the studio wall ha ha).

Got some other idea's but many are just floating around and I haven't come to any major decisions yet, just been sketching and researching a few things. Plan on getting a lot done today and actually trying out a few things.

OOOOHHH also, as I'm interested in the L.E.D electronic boards, I've bought a small one that you can type into and it's ace, just waiting for that to arrive in the post. Yass.

Alphabet Street

So I've been feeling a bit lost with this new project because I had so many ideas of what I would want to try...but I couldn't remember most of them when I got in the library today.

Took a wander round the library hoping an idea would throw itself at me, and thankfully a couple did....

I'm really interested in the work of Jenny Holzer....

Her use of L.E.D. electronic display signboards are brilliant and witty. After researching her a bit more I found her pieces by her that I love ....

Her projections of sentences onto buildings are amazing, but obviously I wouldn't be able to do organise something like that within 6 weeks :( but I do love the electronic boards :)

Another artist I am interested in is one wh does similar work to Holzer......

Barbara Kruger

Found a wee book too about lettering on ceramics so I'll see what I can come up with for that idea....

Stay tuned :D

This should hopefully be filled with loads of lovely and interesting art work by the end of the 6 weeks of using it... so enjoy! :)
